It is my very sad duty to report the passing of John Champion who passed away in early November 2021 at the age of 91. John was a Life Member of the Fleet Air Arm Association and long term committeeman.
He joined the RAN in January 1953 and was discharged in April 1961 with the rank of Lieutenant (P) and served on HMAS Cerberus, Albatross, Sydney and Melbourne. He initially flew Fireflys and then transferred to Gannets.
At various times he was attached to 723, 724, 725, 816 and 851 Squadrons.
After his Navy Service John moved to the United Kingdom where he joined the RAF for approximately 7 years and flew Shackelton Bombers.
A farewell will be held on Thursday 25th November at 1200 at the Hampton RSL. 25 Holtrood Street, Hampton Victoria.
