Ex Petty Officer Aircraft Handler R46024 Bernie ” Big Julie” Jeffrey R46024 passed away in Brisbane Dec 1st 2021. He was 88.
On completion of his Handlers course in 1952, Bernie sailed to the UK on the passenger ship SS Asturias to pick up HMAS Vengeance. On returning to Australia in 1953 he was drafted to HMAS Sydney for her 2nd trip to Korea. He later served on HMAS Melbourne 1957/59/60/62/65/66/71/72 and HMAS Stalwart 1970.
He served at shore establishments Cerberus, Albatross, Lonsdale & Harman.While serving at Cerberus in 1955/56 played VFL football for the then South Melbourne FC , the original “Swans”.
