It has been brought to the President and Secretary’s notice by the Naval Officer Commanding SA (CMDR Emma McDonald-Kerr RAN), that SA Member Fred McCreanor passed away peacefully at Port Augusta hospital on 27th July 2022.
Fred joined the Navy at age 18 as a seaman but transferred to the Fleet Air Arm and qualified as an Aircrewman.
Fred was one of a group of 5 Leading Aircrewmen that were selected and trained as rear seat operators in Gannets in late 1963 when fixed wing was revitalised and there was a shortage of Observers. As a POACM, Fred was later a member of the first S2E OFS in 1968. He went on to become a great CPO ACM and a mentor to both junior Observers and Aircrewmen.
After some 12 years he joined the Federal police in 1973 before then transferring to the Victorian police force, where he served with distinction for many years.
